Charting a course for maritime hydrogen at EU Hydrogen Week

November 22, 2024

As the maritime industry grapples with the challenge of decarbonization, the safe and sustainable LOHC-based solution under development in Ship-aH2oy stood out as a beacon of innovation at European Hydrogen Week 2024 in Brussels.

European Hydrogen Week (EHW), hosted by Hydrogen Europe, the European Commission, and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, spotlighted hydrogen as the linchpin of the clean energy transition. For Ship-aH2oy, the event provided a great platform to showcase the potential of liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) to enable hydrogen as a clean and reliable energy source for shipping.

Ship-aH2oy was represented all week by partners Maritime CleanTech alongside other pioneering maritime hydrogen projects at the Norway Pavilion. Thorbjørn A. Hareide, Business Development Manager at project partner Hydrogenious LOHC Maritime, was also invited to pitch the project’s innovative approach at the side event Enabling Green Maritime Operations, where he gave a presentation on Demonstrating zero-emission shipping using LOHC.

With the European Hydrogen Week gathering over 8,000 stakeholders across the hydrogen value chain, Ship-aH2oy seized the opportunity to strengthen partnerships and spark interest in its scalable and safe emission-reducing technologies. The event underscored the urgent need for collaborative efforts to meet global climate targets, with Ship-aH2oy exemplifying the innovative spirit driving the hydrogen economy forward.
